How A Hybrid Electricity Generating Plant Can Help Rural Community Development in Remote Areas
A Virtual OJT Program Provided by the Virtual Foundation Japan

What our experience after this summer's ecotour taught us is to establish our direct and reliable line of communication if we are to develop a feasible plan for the 2001 summer tour season

Well. Here we are. I hope this virtual OJT course #2 will at least get you the practical idea how the system operate, and the components should be connected together.

The actual travelling distance in terms of flying hours between Japan and Agzu is only about four hours, but, when it comes to our experience since the summer of communicating with the Agzu commune, it has been so difficult that we have felt almost as if we were living on two different planets.

It was reaffirmed in many of the meetings held during our ecotour this summer that a reliable and frequent communication was an absolute necessity if we are to successfully plan and execute an expanded plan of activities during 2001, beginning with the increase of the number of ecotours.

Accordingly, a hybrid power system was donated by the Virtual Foundation Japan through the courtesies of Mr. Eguchi of Sophia Engineering Co. of Fukuoka, Japan so as to provide a constant power source for the newly installed computer and printer in Agzu. E-mail communication between Vladivostok and Japan has not yet been fully operational, and, at this stage of the game, we must depend heavily on what we can do together during the last week of November when all of us meet again in Vladivostok.

In preparation for the meeting, we have just completed a preliminary version of the VOJT course on how to wire and use the power system, and it will become available both at VFJ's home page and in the form of CD Roms by the end of this week thanks to the support and cooperation of the J-Stream Co. of Tokyo.

Mr. Eguchi will come with us to answer any and all questions about the operation of the power system so that once and for all you will be able to use it to power the computer system in Agzu. We must address a long list of agenda items in Vladivostok this time, including the possible need of building a lodge and a smoking plant in Agzu in preparation for the 2001 tour season. And, it will be imperative that we have a reliable communication system beyond this point to effectively continue our discussions and make timely decisions after the Vladivostok meeting through the winter and spring months. For this reason, it is hoped that the #2 VOJT course on the wiring and use of the hybrid power system will be of use to you toward achieving this goal.
